Begin by detaching the fence boards, such as the one-by-six or one-by-eight panels, directly connected to the affected post. Once the post is isolated, assess the extent of the damage. In cases of severe wood rot or termite damage, the structural integrity of the timber may be so compromised that it can simply be pulled straight out of the ground by hand.
